The detailed teaching and activity booklets support the learning process for students, making the design process easy to understand and follow. In this project, students will design, print and then build their very own LED digital clock! This is a great STEM project for teachers to do further teaching on topics such as time, temperature, LEDs and electronics! Every student needs to know what time it is in the morning so they won't be late for school.Base STL file (students build their design upon the base STL file).Example concept STL file (to 3D print and assemble an example project).Teachers guidebook (for class packs of 6 and above).Temperature (as the clock also displays temperature).Electronic components such as LEDs, batteries and PCBs.How PCBs are made).Millennia ago, before the advent of mechanical gears and LED displays, our ancestors had to slowly and painstakingly track the movement of the sun, carefully aligning gnomon sticks against dial plates in relation to their physical position on Earth, all just to know what time it was. Today, it’s so easy to check my smartphone, I’ll sometimes look at it and then realize a few seconds later that I’ve already forgotten what time I read. Now, combining the ancient time-telling technology of sundials with algorithmic design, a creative and extremely patient maker has created an open source, 3D printed sundial that allows users to digitally read the time. The 3D printed digital sundial functions without the use of batteries, motors or electronics-all that’s needed are four 3D printed ABS parts, a jam jar, and a few screws, nuts and washers. ![]() What’s more, the inventor claims that due to the extremely precise nature of the design, this digital sundial can only be recreated with 3D printing technology, and cannot be mass-produced through injection molding or other traditional manufacturing techniques.Ĭreated by Julldozer of Mojoptix, the French/English tech podcast, the 3D printed digital sundial works just like a traditional sundial by matching up the shadow of a gnomon stick with the Earth’s rotational axis. However in this case, the shape of the gnomon stick itself has been mathematically designed with precisely-placed holes (affectionately referred to as ‘swiss cheese’) so that it can redirect sunlight into the shape of actual numbers, meaning you can read it as easily as you would a smartphone or any other digital clock.Īs he explains in a comprehensive YouTube video (included below), Julldozer built the sundial algorithmically using OpenScad to create a matrix for each number shown on the dial. He then combined these number matrixes into an open source 3D printable model, which is available to download on Thingiverse. To create his, he 3D printed the gnomon with 0.1mm layers, and the other elements with 0.15mm layers using its Ultimaker 2. The digital sundial was designed to display the time from 10 am to 4 pm in twenty-minute increments. Speaking of time, you’ll need a lot of it if you want to 3D print one of these for yourself. According to Julldozer, each digital sundial takes roughly 35 hours to 3D print due to the precisely placed holes and their tiny circumference. “Basically it’s ideal for ‘High-Tech Artisans.’” “You can only craft it with hobby/prototyping tools, and only very slowly (one every 1.5 days),” he said.

For each host that you set up, there is an SSL tab. I would really appreciate some help with this.Īs you can probably tell, I am totally new to trying to implement SSL on my MAMP PRO web server. Only after I remove the SSL version can I connect to the regular version again. On top of all of that, if I create a second copy of my domain in MAMP PRO, and then set it up for SSL – even if those two files are wrong – I cannot connect to the regular HTTP version of my site either. I still cannot connect to the HTTPS version of my server. I made copies of these two files as well, and changed their extensions to “.crt” and “key”, and then set their path in MAMP PRO on the SSL tab for my domain.īut that still does not help. In another folder called “csr”, there is a file called “0000_csr-certbot” and in a folder called “keys” there is another file called “0000_key-certbot”. I am assuming that is because those files are just aliases, and not the real files themselves. MAMP PRO recognizes the files, but I still cannot connect to the HTTPS version of my website, even after I restart MAMP PRO. Then I set the paths to them in MAMP PRO on the SSL tab for my domain. ![]() ![]() So I made copies of the “privkey.pem” and “fullchain.pem” files in the “live” folder, and changed the file extensions to “.key” and “.crt”. pem” to MAMP PRO’s “nf” file via the “File/Edit Template” menu, but that has not helped. I added the string “AddType application/x-x509-ca-cert. They are grayed out when I navigate to them. However, these are only aliases, which appear to point right back to themselves when I do a “Get Info”.Īside from the fact that those are aliases, and not the real files, the big problem is that MAMP PRO does not recognize. It is inside this last folder where the actual key and certificate files are found. This includes a subfolder called “live” in which is another subfolder folder which bears my domain name. As I said, I use MAMP PRO instead.Īfter choosing the actual HTML directory for my domain in my MAMP PRO folder hierarchy – as per instructions I found online – Certbot sucessfully installed and verified all folders and files, which were installed in “/private/etc/letsencrypt”. In other words, I think validation failed the first time around, because Certbot was looking for a running version of OS X’s built-in Apache, server, which I do not use. ![]() I have successfully installed Certbot using Homebrew on an iMac running El Capitan 10.11.6.Īfter some initial trouble, I realized that I had to choose “Other” as my web server software – as opposed to choosing “Apache” – because I run my web server using MAMP PRO 4.1, which uses its own proprietary version of Apache. ![]() Among the mechanical changes, the M 256 in-line six-cylinder petrol engine is new. The CLA Shooting Brake became available from September 2019. Production of what Mercedes-Benz calls the CLA Coupé commenced in February 2019 but it was a slow ramp-up as the first cars did not reach buyers for a further three months. The sedan’s world debut took place in Las Vegas at CES 2019 with the estate having its global debut two months later at the Geneva motor show. ![]() This is a crucial part of the way I do things, though. Ask about their kids, how they like working for the university, et cetera. If it’s appropriate given the context and your familiarity with one another, as them about their life. They weren’t put on this earth to be your professor. According to a 2015 study, about 1 in 40 scholars use Twitter and that number is probably growing. Tell them if you’re looking for a job or if you’re moving to a city they might have some valuable words of advice for you.Ī less direct way to keep your name fresh: follow them on Twitter. You can use that same email to briefly fill them in on what’s up in your life. It’ll show that you 1) remember what they’re about, and 2) continue to stay engaged in the topic. For example, forward a news article that is relevant to their course topic or research. To keep your name in their mind, send relevant emails every so often. ![]() That means you have mere months to make a lasting impression, a tall order given that people can only remember about 150 people at a time and they will have another cohort in front of them the next semester. Keep your name fresh in their mind.Ĭhances are, you’ll have each professor only once. No matter the size of the class, this effort will be noticed and appreciated. Sit in the front row, attend every class, participate thoughtfully as often as possible, and show up to their office hours. Whatever the size or format of the course, get face time with the instructor as often as possible. In large lectures, the professor may never see your face unless you make an effort to put it right in front of them. In seminars, your professor will learn your name in the first week. Build the foundation.Ĭollege courses vary. Once you figured out which professors are important to keep in touch with, then… 2. If you reach out years later for a letter of recommendation or advice, they’ll be much less willing to help if they don’t know who the heck you are. The reason you should not hesitate is that there is no graceful way to make a close connection to a professor after you have already graduated. The “right ones” should be easy to pinpoint (that’s why they’re the “right ones”.) More than that, focus on the professors who are easy to talk to. Consider some professors you look up to focus in on the ones who are intimately in touch with the field you want to break into. Start thinking about this right away if you haven’t already. Professors are the key.Ħ Steps To Stay in Touch with Your Professors: 1. Naturally, many of those connections were borne out of my undergrad years and subsequent education. While I’m not skilled at creating new connections out of thin air (nor do I think it’s the best way to network), I have learned to nurture the connections I already have. Even Beyoncé had some help along the way. On the road to your dream job, you will need to rely on others’ advice, recommendations, connections, and goodwill. The truth of “getting ahead” in the world, though, is that it does usually require other people’s help. Being kind with an ulterior motive doesn’t feel like being kind at all. It’s the same reason I can’t be a salesperson for a living. Ingenuine interactions (of the “scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours” variety) make me deeply uncomfortable. That’s the type of networking that does not work for me – I’m shy, I’m awkward, and schmoozing of any kind makes me cringe. Maybe you’re like me and, when you hear the word “networking,” you picture giant conferences full of thousands of name-tagged, sharply-dressed people with stacks of business cards ready to fling around the room. You’ve heard it before and you’ll hear it again: networking is freaking important. ![]() ![]() You’ll leave with a Rolodex of people (a.k.a., Gmail contacts) who will help you on your journey to your “dream job” or “success,” whatever those words mean to you. However, if you make the most of your college years, you’ll be leaving with a lot more than a piece of paper and a set of skills to fill out your nascent resume. If you’re focused on only tangibles, I guess that’s kinda true. People often refer to a university degree as an exorbitantly-priced, glorified piece of paper. The rest of the record is fairly solid, with more than its share of disconcerting moments - Cube's nyah-nyahing ("Now you ask if I'm a Five Percenter?") in particularly, um, charming, but it bogs down in the second half, weighed with a tired bitch-hating scenario ("Don't Trust 'Em," gee, there's a new spin) and a follow-up to AmeriKKKa's "Gangsta's Fairytale" that cries out for an Andrew Dice Clay cover version. The other two outstanding cuts are the ones directly preceding "M.F." the almost humorously hyperbolic title-cut-statement-of-purpose (where, among other outrages, Cube calls the Statue of Liberty a "lazy bitch"), and the stunning "It Was a Good Day."
